I agree with Gary wholeheartedly. Those who keep pushing to outlaw firearms had better wake up. Bad people don't need guns to hurt and kill, there are many more efficient means for those filled with hate.
Thanks for sharing.

Taking away rights from law abiding citizens smacks to me of too much government control. Here in Oregon they are trying to figure out how to undo the mess they made legalizing drugs of abuse. How do homeless drug addicts manage to have guns? My son lives in a housing facility for disabled people that edges the park. He hears shots often.

Well done grandpa. I totally agree with his logic. I have never held a gun and never had one in my house. Baseball bats yes. There is one behind the tall dresser by the front door. There is one on the ledge behind my mattress. I have no grandchildren so, I have knives and sharp scissors here and there. I might go down, but it won't be alone. Karen

Ahh...Good job. I have a flashlight and a phone that might be able to call 911 in an emergency. Last night my hubby was called by a friend to rescue a kid who had fallen in the river....I was sitting in the hot tub. The kid lived.

All I can say is, Grandpa did the right thing teaching her about guns and respecting them. She certainly did learn her lesson. This was a very nice story and I love that it is based on real times. This was most enjoyable. Gretchen

Well, that's an interesting way to teach a child a lesson. What was the accident that killed her? Did it involve a gun?
My critiques are what they normally are - a good story needs editing and a picture is always helpful in giving us a full presentation.
I'm glad that you're having fun writing them.

Writing stories about Morgan is a beautiful way to keep her memory alive and a beautiful tribute to a precious little girl. I agree children should be taught gun safety if there will be guns in the house. Btw, my sisters and I snooped in bathroom drawers and my mother's dresser drawers when we were kids.
My dad was a hunter with a collection of guns, and built shelves in a closet, so high up the wall, HE had to stand on a chair to reach them.
A small nit: There had recently been a episode where a child found a parents gun ( 'an' episode......parent's gun)
I look forward to reading more about Morgan.

Sorry to hear of that tragedy. I was hoping this post would have a positive outcome. A very good piece of writing. If it were me, rebellious as I was, I probably would have wanted to play with a gun. Glad it wasn't real!

I realized from the reviews I missed the most important details. This was not a tragedy, only a teachable moment. All kids are curious. In Africa I used to sneak through the jungle behind my big brother stalking game. Like Gary, he was a sharp shooter. Bwana Dix had an elephant gun and taught Paul to hunt. He has wonderful stories of his childhood learning to use sling shots and his first gun.
-
I always had toy guns but never a real one. My wife and I were going to get one, but, unfortunately, that never happened.
-
I am not able to kill anything (too much of a softie). My husband shot one deer in our marriage. Just had his total knee replaced, still using his cane. Saw a deer, hobbled after it leaving his cane in the road. From the distance I saw him cock the gun, but he forgot to load it. Deer just kept staring while he reloaded the gun. One shot, no noise and by the time I got there he had already removed the scent glands and bled it, was skinning it. I had to help and snow was going down the waist of my pants...I was impressed. Whole thing took 2 hours and we were heading home.
-
My father-in-law was a hunter. My wife said after seeing a deer hung up and the smell, she would never eat venison.
-
Gary says it is all in the technique. Scent glands out and skinning not touching the hair, don't pop the guts. I have spent hours cutting meat, and frankly I would rather buy than kill it.
-
I'm in the position of having to buy food now. But we got a new Kitchen boss now and I always kid him with recipes for turtles, cicadas, muskrat and the like.
-
Crocodile and fried locusts? Fried flying ants? Yummy things from Congo. Puzzled. You live in assisted living, right? Buy your own food? Have PT? Mentioned a class, are you teaching?
-
Yes, I'm in assisted living as right now I need a wheelchair. I pay for food here, but often use Doordash or UberEats. I tech a weekly Bible Class here.
-
Weekly Bible Class. Sounds like you. We are doing My heart Christ's home right now. Is it a motorized one? Gary likely will need one before long. I was looking at the halls in our small cabin realizing not even a manual one will fit. Better ride that Trike while we can.
-
I have both a manual and motorized wheelchair, but more often than not, I'll use the motorized one. Hope to her from Gary!

I don't care for guns either...In the right hands they are necessary, but it's those crazys that get automatic ones and just start shooting the innocent. Or the child who finds one in their home and ends up using it. Chills through me me. I'm sorry about your granddaughter, Esther. Nothing really eases the pain.
Hugs, Carol

Carol, as I read the reviews I realized I missed the most important part. Gary believed in teaching kids gun safety and the whole thing was a set up. It was a lighter my brother in law had given Gary for Christmas. Kids who are clueless about guns are more dangerous.
-
Now you are getting like me, Ether. Leaving parts out of the story. I can understand teaching a child and making sure they know not to touch it.
Have a great day!
Smiles, Carol
-
Hugs back.

Roy thanks. I noticed I missed some important details but you got it. It was a gag gift of a gun lighter Gary got from my brother in law. I revised so the rest of the readers get it...smiles.

Well done

Oh my gosh that's cute!!! What innocence and such a good lesson on guns! My parents, actually more my father, decided to teach us about guns early in life and then we knew to stay away from them. Your granddaughter seemed to have learned the lesson well.
Love it,
Rhonda

This is precious. Oh hon, I bet you miss her so much. I just wish there was some words to say that could feel right, but the death of a child is the most painful thing there is as I do know, we lost two, one at 13 and one at 18. I can't imagine seven tho. All I know is I love the way you are honoring her in your stories. God bless you, my dear friend. I am sure there is a little girl smiling down on you every day.
This story is heartfelt and so sweet. Thank you for sharing. I will be looking forward to reading more. Love, Debi

I have so many more. Many readers did not get the fact that it was a set up and fake gun. I revised slightly. Esther

Hon, there's some in every crowd. You made the statement so I don't get that some didn't get it. I loved your story.

Bless you. Get well quick...Esther
