Cecilia,

This is an excellent entry in the 1-6-1 Wild Life Poem contest. It brilliantly captures the majesty of one of nature's glorious birds and the ethereal sound they share with us at night

All the best in the contest,

Eugene

I have seen loons on my visits to New Hampshire. I like your rhyming of words in your poem. You did well with the 1-6-1 form with creating a scene and feel for nature.

Well, to remark would take more characters (150) per FS than there are in any short poetry form. That's annoying. Tears me apart. Still I get the message written herein, save for lake middle could be intended as Lake Middle.

    Tom,

Thank you for the wonderful review. You should have been a stand up comedian, but I van tell you are a shy guy. It's way to early to try and be witty. I appreciate it.

you nailed this 1-6-1 wild life poem with 8 short but effective words about seeing a lonely loon swimming in the middle of a lake in June. Your cover art captured the mood.

    Jake,

Thank you for the great review. Loons have a beautiful call, almost a lonesome quality. When we lived in Minnesota I used to love to listen to the loons on the lake.

oh and how are loons different from geese and ducks?
reply by the author on 07-Feb-2025
I'm not sure how they are different. Their call is haunting.

Being from Maine, where the Loons are plentiful, I love this poem. Nice rhyming words for this 1-6-1. Good picture for your presentation. Be sure to credit your picture source. good luck.

    Marilyn,

Thank you for the wonderful review. Yes, sometimes I forget to. Most. of the time IStock has it across the picture.

When I lived in Minnesota I used to love listening to the loons out on the lake in the summer time. Such a mournful sound.

Hi Cecilia, I love earth's nature
and have a soft spot for birds.
I love this short bird poem.
We have several bird feeders
in our backyard and we enjoy
watching them feed in the
mornings. Your poem is lovely, have a blessed evening. :)

Un-named author, thanks to you, I learned another wildlife lesson...This
waterfowl pictured (Loon), is not a duck or geese, but a bird species and it makes it living strictly in the water and builds its nest nearby...Although
graceful in water, it is clumsy on land. Thanks for the insight and good luck in the contest. teafor2

I didn't realize a loon was so beautiful. All I do is work. It also says croon, do they make a beautiful sound? I've got to get out more. I love the picture, and the background color is spot on.
