Well, you did that. Congrats on a fine piece of image-filled prose, Dawn. *smile* Yours is the last piece I'm reading before I have my dinner and now I have a lovely image to take with me. Thanks!

I know we are not supposed to give sixes but I cant help it with this one.
I have lived this and your description and imagery is excellently done.
Your control of the words is wonderful

Oh Dawn this is gorgeous. All your imagery is vivid with brilliant colours, smells and the emotion evoked is one of retrospection and yes, peace.
A loon echoing over a lake is always a great reminder that one isn't the bustle of civilization.
You have done a fabulous job with your imagery. :))

This was really a descriptive one, filling the reader with anticipation as they are caught up in the writer's excitement over the subject. A relaxing and satisfying end to the journey too.

Your fine write does have strong imagery, Dawn. And a camera shot like this one is one in a million--although I know it's not yours--but a good focal point for your story. These quiet moments of personal observation are interesting to me, as I strive for them, too. I carry my camera with me all the time. Marilyn

You're right about the photograph - incredible. And your words do it justice. I read this, as I do many pieces, at my desk at my job, in the moments before I get down to work. I had to go back and re-read becaue I read it too rapidly the first time. It almost forces you to slow down to enjoy the imagery and to feel the spirit of the story. I mean, you can't rush through ""The first rays of sun are just breaking over the horizon, turning the velvety smooth, black water to glistening gold". The reader's experience of the poem mirrors the canoeist's experience of nature. Wonderful!

Hi, Dawn.
Did you mean to repeat, 'the paddle', in last line?
You certainly meet the challenge, with lovely nature imagery throughout, accompanied by the thoughts it inspires.
Very peaceful and wonderful observations as dawn breaks to reveal the magic.
Excellent.
Cheers, Ray xx

Good grief! This has been the strangest night. No, I did not mean for 'the paddle' to be repeated. Thank you! It's 6:30 am here and I've been at this since yesterday though so that's probably caused me to be careless when I revised...sigh...you're the best!
