Yeah, isn't that the way it always seems to go, Clockwise?
At least a hand lying "just out of reach" is much better than being lied to completely.
Good luck to you in your contest.

Clockwise,

phenomenal.

My son, who has his masters in conservation had once considered political science...

He was writing a research missive and argument at one point. Upon reading it, I realized nothing he argued was from what I thought to be his point of view. I asked him why?

"Mom, the only brownie points I need to win right now because education is costing me a fortune, is not just a good grade but a great grade from my professor ."

I was puzzled.

He then went on to say... every individual is biased, especially in the political arena. My professor is no different. It is hard to be objective when you are passionate about something. I write what he wants to hear. I have plenty of opportunities and time to express my true thoughts in the real life arena. Passing is more important to me at the moment. "

It made sense but the old axiom "be true to thyself " flew out the window or did it.

Shortly afterwards, my nice was going to Medical School.
I, being a health and nutrition fanatic, asked her why she does not integrate holistic with conventional and why are there not such subjects in Medical Schools.

She replied" Aunt Jimi, Medical Schools are funded by big Pharma. We learn and follow their knowledge toward the pharmaceutical way of (healing) . Holistic is taboo and not tolerated. I am not interested in failing Medical School because I want to exert my value in natural healing. I cannot introduce not make an impact if I do not pass first."

Wow.. this is what your short work brings home to me, plus many other things as far as History is concerned.

I might be wrong in its interpretation. But this is what I see.

Well done

Jimi

Thank you for this lovely review, Jimi. The fact that you understood exactly what I was trying to convey makes me smile!

    I thought so.
History books have their own slant and you cannot move a History teachers axiom by arguing a point, especially if they have been indoctrinated and often blindly.

I am happy I interpreted right because it was brilliant.

I am so pleased that you have chosen a photo of mine to accompany your very good poem. The truth is so often just out of reach, iff we even know what direction to reach in. Thank you very much!

Is there some reason why these pictured hands have six fingers? If so it escapes me but i do like the poem it has the oriental touch of mystery that makes it sound very Japanese rather than the less stringently ordered 5-7-5.

Thanks for reading and your kind review. I liked the extra fingers as it suggests something being askew.

Yes, definitely odd. I met a guy once who had six fingers on one hand. He was a maths teacher. I just found that hilarious.

I have so felt this way in my life, both as a very young student and while in college. Sometimes, we are afraid to ask questions for the knowledge we seek, sometimes it is because we do not want to look as though we do not know or understand, but what ever the reason, we do not ask or seek out the answers we are looking for, thus truth is out of our reach. Regardless of the teacher's hand. A very melancholy poem, but very nicely written especially for a 5/7/5. Good Luck and Best Wishes in the Contest! Sherman541

A very well written 5-7-5 poem, the thirst for knowledge sometimes needs a helping hand, a poignant and clever poem.
Excellent choice of artwork for your words

This is an interesting reflection on both the teacher and the learner. Teachers who make themselves too remote are of little help to the learner. Whilst it is admirable for a teacher to try to elicit the best from a student, this is more likely to be successful with empathy rather than aloofness.

This speaks truth, too subjective, theory becomes impracticable, learning is grasped, teacher is not always appreciated at par with the teaching; well said, well done. Thank you for sharing this with us. Good luck with the contest. Exceptional 6-STAR! KEEP WRITING, TIP CHANGING. DR ALCREATOR

You cannot teach that which you do not know. To my mind the worst kind of teacher is one who has no clue about how to connect with or somehow reach their students. Any teacher who spends the majority of their time doing anything but inspiring their students to be hungry for knowledge, that teacher is failing. You will never learn the secret to life if you do not earnestly seek the answer. Learn baby, learn

Hello!
Powerful, but sad, nonetheless. I just retired from 38+ years of teaching, and I hope to God that none of my students ever felt the way as expressed in your well-crafted verse. Best wishes in the contest...and keep grasping for the truth!
