Wow! Did you ever get a chance to go out West? As I am reading some of your history, I'm thinking about your life as an artist. When did you get into writing? When you considered being a proofreader?

I always enjoyed writing and I learned I could express myself better on paper that in person sometimes. I never occurred to me to go that route in college but I was an avid reader from the time I learned to read.

I think it's an interesting idea and it comes off as a kind of diary experience. What made it stand out was the moments you chose to illustrate. You have that tension between you and the woman who looks after the kids. you have that day when your husband reveals this secret love of flying, and you watch him nervously taking off and landing in triumph. There's a sense of standing outside of a moment that only he can experience completely. So we get that part of him that is separate from you. There's also that sense that you were on your own dealing with the child care. No mention of your husband there. So there's this sense of a man not completely understand or totally involved with your life and that's what makes the story complicated and interesting. estory

Your family had a very rich, full and busy life! Even while raising a young family, you and your husband both had your individual interests and coordinated your respective roles quite well. I'm sure his piloting activities were quite a shock, especially when they cut a hole out of your favorite shirt that he wore!

Excellent recall as usual, Beth. I doubt very much I could do as well. LOL You do bring some memories to mind for me. We are from the same era and so many things you write about can apply to my family as well. Well done dear. xxx Nancy:)

Thank you Nancy, I think this is bringing back memories for many of our generation. I appreciate your comments. You should write your story. I think your children would love it.

Beth, how exciting! A camper for a week's holiday! That's wonderful to look forward to. How did those panels for Christmas turn out? Or are you telling that in the next chapter?
So Carol now went to school and did well. Always such satisfaction when children turn out to be good students. My oldest was very good at elementary school and went without a single doubt to a classical gymnasium at the age of twelve. There it all was so different! It was not as easy as she thought it would be, and in the third year she dropped out. I think it had also a lot to do with my divorcing her father that year.

Each time I read a new chapter here, I enjoy the conversational tone, the simplicity of the ongoing events in your family life. Your husband now can fly a plane! What a surprise that must have been for you.

Well written, as always.

Thank you Marjon, I'm pleased you're enjoying this. The trip in the camper is one I'll never forget. It's two chapters away. There is something about the panels in the next chapter. I appreciate your comments.

I actually enjoy the seemingly random glimpses into your life with a man that you obviously loved dearly. I AM a 'first timer'. Your introductory notes really helped to clarify the thrust. Thank you for sharing. DJ

Well welcome first timer, I'm so glad I left that note about what this is all about. I was hoping no one would be offended. Thanks so much for the review. I hope to see your name agains.

Dear Beth, a most progressive chapter in your life, your personal life and that of your Husband and Carol in particular. No civil rights in this chapter, just the revelation that airplanes were going to be a part of your life too!

The airplane business sounds as if your husband was having a mid-life crises. I would be burned up about the shirt too. Your husband's reaction was the same as my husband's would have been. I had to learn not to be so materialistic.
You are taking on a lot with the two art projects. You need to learn to say no. LOL Hey, I had the same problem too.

Thank you so much for the review and the great comments. I'm glad I'm not the only one who would have bitched about the shirt, and yes, I did need to say no.

It ain't broke; don't fix it. Skip around as much as you want--I love the format of your speaking to your late husband and recalling various incidents, amusing and otherwise. Those twins of yours are demonic! Cheers. LIZ

Thank you so much for the review. I think I going to keep that note on the rest of mine. It paid off this time. I had two more first timer and one gave me six stars. Yep, the twins were demons. Don when he was young and Christi can be an older demon. Don't her I said so. She knows. LOL

This is another well written segment of your memoir. I was so interested I was surprised that I had come to the end already. Well done again as usual!
