Hello to you BethShelby. I I enjoyed reading your chapter Seventies Trends and Challenges. I smiled many times while I reading ex:
:I guess it was itchy on tender young skin, because Connie didn't like ( the dress you made) it. At one point, I was holding her in church, and she decided she'd had enough. She started trying to tear off her dress.
Thank you for sharing a chapter from your book Remembering Yesterday.
Gert

Thank you Gert. I appreciate you review and comments. I'm not sure where to end this saga. My children keep telling me to keep writing. I think my memory is better than theirs. LOL

A very interesting chapter as the teenage years begin to appear over the horizon and all the many and varied situations that brings when we inevitably must allow our children to begin to fledge !!

Very nice. Thank you for sharing these memories. I do wonder if anyone would have suggested your daughter having a cognative impairment which made her more suggestible to some of the things she did with her friends. I do not know what things were like back then, but I've worked on such cases in the 21st century. Just a thought. Well done.

Thanks for the review and comments. She was going through a phase of following whatever her friends suggested. She turned out okay. She is nurse and actually gave me less trouble than my other teenagers did over the years. The friend who jumped from the second story with the rope around her neck sounds like she might have had some cognitive impairment.

Ah I remember those days. I was a teenager in the seventies and I remember the styles, as well as wanting to assert my independence. I jumped out a few windows too, tho never with a rope around my neck. I suppose I drove anyone who got stuck taking care of me a little crazy.

These real life issues of dealing with teenagers test the skills of parenting. I thought it started a bit slowly, but it picked up momentum towards the end when you brought in the story of the neighborhood friend of your daughter's, Julie. The story of her jumping out of the window attempting suicide really grabbed me. This cuts close to home as you start to tell about your daughter riding around on her bike with this girl at midnight. And the fact that she sat on the sink and broke it reveals that she is capable of irresponsible decisions. So it raises all these new things to worry about and how to deal with them. The challenges of parenting come through in that part of the story. Its also a bit scary. estory

Thank you for the review and comments. Yes, I found as my daughter became a teenager a lot of things changed. I'll have to look over the first of that chapter and see what I can do to make in move a little smoother.

I enjoy this creative way you've come up with to share these memories from fifty years ago. It must be a little healing as well to imagine such a tete a tete with your husband.

Thank you for the review. I've had a good life and I enjoy replaying the memories. I've heard writing is therapeutic, but I'm not sad, so I don't feel I need healing. I just like writing. They say write what you know. My life is what I know. Thank you for reading it and commenting.

Yep, I can imagine that there could be problems to be had with teenagers in those years. Times were changing and children became bolder and bolder. No surprise there. In 1974 I was 22 and started to fly, so I was well past the worst, but I do remember my adoptive mother despairing some years prior to that. I so love your story. It's so well written. Ulla:)))

Hahahaha, I was a flight attendant for twenty years with Scandinavian Airlines. I would have loved to be a pilot, but in those years it was not possible for a woman. :)))

Dear Beth, welcome to the world of absurd fashion AND teenagers. Mine were teens a decade earlier. Then, it was music loud enough to make you deaf for the rest of your life, and Bell bottom jeans.
Your story sounds (like you might have written it) if you would have time to write it then. Memories are like that.

Suzanna, You were born the year after I was. How did you manage to have teens a decade earlier? I had bell botton jeans, too. I may still have some packed away somewhere. I remember the loud music. It may be the reason I have tinnitus now. Thanks for the review and comments.

Dear Beth, are you 82? WOW! my calculator must be Way Off. Or my location. You lived an urban life and I,
a very small town. You with the civil rights marches, and I with a sheriff, who held that office for 35 years.

Actually I was born Sept 10, 1937 so I just had a birthday. I'm not a young chick anymore, but don't tell my brain. It thinks it's everyone else who is old.

I remember those days well. You forgot to mention the bell bottoms on the pantsuits. LOL I had some beautiful outfits.
Boy it is rough keeping tabs on teens. Our three were born; Nancy in May'55, Rhonda in Jan. '57 and Mark in Dec.'57. They were all teenagers at once. That was a trip, but we made it un scathed. Well done Beth. Nancy:)

Yes, I should have mentioned the bell bottoms. I kind of like those styles. They didn't last long enough. Those two you had were almost close enough to be teens. It a couple years, I had three teens at one time but that last one who came along ten years behind the rest was more handful than the three of them put together. Thanks so much for the review and comments and for the six stars.
