Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

It's a very colorful chapter describing life for your family of six! A sinking boat, a daughter trapped in a car trunk, a terrorized toddler... that gorilla reminds me of the character on "Harry and the Hendersons." My father loved that show, or movie, or whatever it was!

Kids get into all kinds of trouble, don't they! So do kittens... I have heard what kittens can do to a Christmas tree!

You really do have a Mom's intuition. That was a close call, with the trunk. And the gorilla thing sounds like a really frightful fiasco. Poor little Connie! I'm not a big fan of Halloween myself. For some people, it's innocent fun, but for others, it's seriously evil. For churches who want to provide alternative children's entertainment, I'm all for it -- and keep an eye on the youngsters!

I'm wondering if you found another job, after your employer picked up and left.

Hi Beth, this is a lovely continuation to your story but also a bit worrying. You had a few frights not only at Halloween but on other occasions as well. Can't wait to what's next. Ulla:)))

I remember when they found razor blades in the candy. Fortunately, we were in a neighborhood where we have known each other for years. It was sad though. Being so cruel to children. Sounds like Don was quite a carpenter. Glad you found your little girl in time. Your story is well-written very interesting start to finish. I look forward o reading more

Thank you so much for the review and comments. Several people remembered about when there was so much in the news about razors in candy.

I am fascinated by your son Don building a boat, that is quite the accomplishment, despite the leaks. The Halloween idea of dressing up like people from the Bible is a good idea. I enjoyed reading your memoir again like the other chapters and look forward to reading more.

Thank you for the review and comments. Don really surprised us too.
The church party on Halloween night was success. I think most of the kid enjoyed it.. A few went trick or treating and came to the party later.

Thanks for sharing all these stories, Beth. I'll just comment on the different ones as I read them.

I can't believe that you were asked to keep an eye on the business owners' baby while working! That shouldn't be legal. Interesting thing about that "Napoleanic law."

I was really impressed with Don building his own boat at age 11! Wow! Reminds me of those children's survival books where a kid builds everything himself on a deserted island. He could do it! Kudos to him. Leaks can be fixed.

Your maternal instincts are so strong! It's good that the Spirit nudged you to check on Christi!

Poor Connie. I always had some concern about the whole Halloween thing and was puzzled why the public schools gave up teaching about Thanksgiving and made such a huge deal about Halloween. I think the spelling is "Wiccan" with two 'c's.

Congrats to Don again! "time he won the price. " (prize?)

Ah, pets and Christmas trees - that's a topic for stories all on their own!

This was a good chapter. You can see why I get so frustrated with this place and I had to find this myself, again. A couple of spags this time.

Dear Beth, you brought so many memories of the 70s back to me. Shag Carpet, and warnings of Razor Blades in Candy being at the top of the list of the not so good stuff that marked those times.
I do see that your next chapter will have you job hunting again! I will look forward to see how that goes.

Thanks so much for the review and comments. Thinks were different int he seventies but to me it is hard to believe it was nearly fifties ago.

Another interesting chapter. I hate Halloween, Beth. It started when I became a teen and felt like I was too mature to go trick or treat. I never allowed my children to go because of the evil people who were doctoring the candy treats. We had parties or went on family camping trips instead.. My cat used to climb our tree. I wrote a poem about it. He was so cute. Thought he was hid from me.
Good job, dear. Nancy:)

They were having trick or threating when I was a kid but mine folks wouldn't let me participate. We had Halloween Carnivals at school and some kids soaped up store window and played pranks. Thanks so much for the review and comments.

Your life was a going concern. Between your job, your children and your husband, there was never a dull moment. You had to have eyes in the back of your head, to keep up with these children. Don seems to be exceptionally talented and headed for a good future. Also, I'm thinking it won't be long before you two decide, Mississippi is where you want to be, in your newly built house. Good story and very interesting, Beth.
