Grey Twilight

by Gypsy Blue Rose

grey twilight -

smothered by a sense of dread

as she watches

through the windowpane

an outside life

she doesn’t partake

and inside she’s aware

she’s dying day by day

in the community room

what community?

old people chat and laugh

oblivious about what’s to come

and they don’t seem to mind

the smell of Pinesol and old age

visiting hours are the worst

she waits and waits and waits

but nobody comes

again

and she hates the ones

who have family and friends

another starless

moonless night

even they

don’t know who she is

and she wonders

if she’ll still be here

at sunrise

Someone asked me if this was about me, it's not. I'm too young and healthy to live in a retirement home. I have a long life ahead. This is just a poem.
