"James!" She stood in the doorway wearing a black lace teddy. "What are you doing here?"

"Surprising you!" He handed his fiance a dozen roses. "God, you're beautiful."

"Alexis, baby, what's taking you so long?" A man in boxer shorts stood behind her.

                              * * * * * * * * * * * * *


Devastated, James tried to drink his sorrow away. Alexis's face was at the bottom of every glass.  Tears filled his eyes.

On the bar stool beside him, an old man spoke, "My wife ran off back in '99. Took everything."

"How did you survive?"

He sadly smiled. "Welcome to my house, friend. You can call it home."
