It is a shame that there are people who will befriend you for their own good and it is always hard to be sure you can really trust anyone. With so many people being scammed on social media and other site, most of us have become more and more distrustful of others.

Thank you for your comments. For those of us who only want to share our creativity with the world, it is unthinkable that someone who lacks morals would do something like this, but it does happen often.

Wow. Thanks for the warning. I knew not to share my story ideas with other aspiring writers since they tend to steal the idea from me and use it for their own gain.
I am sorry you went through something similar to this author's predicament, and I will heed your warning not to share my storylines, with anyone.

Thank you Jesse for your comments. As writer we are often inspired by something another writer will post, but that is not the same as stealing someone else's ideas or hard work and then claiming it as their own.

Agreed, my friend. We must look out for each other and cover all the bases whenever there is stealing going on.

Thank you. It will be a shame to never write what may have been a success for fear of it being compromised by over sharing.

What a world we live in! My son writes screen plays and produces movies...he worked with some people who knew he was learning and they thought they could say the work was theirs...It's a tough lesson to realize friends may be actually wolves in disguise.

Everyone wants to get over. Some do by hard work and dedication, others try to take the easy way by cheating and stealing.

I wish I had a six for this wonderful lesson in a story. Wow, and this happened to you too, my sweet brother. That is so very sad, but it really got me thinking about how naive I am and how I always think to trust people. Thank you for giving this awesome food for thought, my dear BBBB. Much appreciated.
Lotsa love, Debi

On the one hand it is indicative of something of value, but sad at the same time when it is compromised.

I hear you. There are unscrupulous people out there who will not hesitate to steal your work and your thunder. Be wise when choosing those whom you can trust.

Yes. A secret is only a secret as long as it is not shared. Once shared it is a secret no longer. It is then open to anyone seeking to take advantage.

You state that this is fiction, but the story holds a lot of truth. This scenario Has been played out more than once. I enjoyed reading your short story, Nomi.

Thank you. Sometimes, actually many times, the best fiction is based on reality.

Okay, I'm going to be honest here. This is listed as fiction, but the notes make it sound like, it is based on true events (loosely).

This is a short story, perhaps too short, as it is all telling, moves quickly, and leaves out needed explanations and details. For example: The ending paragraph simply says people believed Moses and his family. Wait, Johny made the movie, so it must have been a copywrite, and he got paid. It takes years to make a movie.

Then: "Despite the movie's huge success, Johnny found himself on the outside looking in, receiving only a free ticket from an anonymous friend to watch the film.
-How? What happened? And why couldn't he afford a ticket?

-I mean no insult and I'm not sure if this was only meant to be a short, short skit. It could benefit from some expansion, if it is meant to be more.

Many details were left out as it can be something to go further. Here I am taking my own advice. I have no intention of over sharing. The point of the short story is do not over share.

Nomi,

This is a great story. Poor Johnny had to learn the hard way. We as writer need to be careful, so our writings don't end up in the wrong hands. You never know who you can truly trust.

Well done

Cecilia

Thank you. The story was short and without too much detail for a reason. Some want more details, which for me, means possible over sharing.
reply by Cecilia A Heiskary on 24-Jan-2025
You're welcome. You had enough detail.
