I'm glad the young couple had a wonderful wedding, but I guess they didn't get off to an easy start. That's a beautiful wedding picture, with the cake -- I'm happy to get another glimpse of one of the children I've been reading so much about. I'm sorry I'm running low on sixes, but your chapter is very engaging as always, and I wish I had more.

Poor Connie, she got a drill sergeant for a camp leader and an exorcist for a school teacher! But that was a funny story about her and the Rubik's Cube -- talk about thinking outside the box! I guess you all matched wits, when you caught onto her!

The 80s were memorable years -- Cabbage Patch Kids, ugh! Cute idea, but I never thought they looked very cute.

Yes, I think you really had your hands full with all of your children, especially the older ones, as you explained.

Thank you so much for reviewing and editing this for me. I sure misplaced a few Capitals on this one. You're priceless. I feel like my story is in much better shape after you finish with it.

This is full post of the happenings during this period. Carol's marriage was a surprise, and Glen taking of his mask is how it is for too many couples. Very interesting post!

Thank you again. Yes, people are sometimes able to keep on their best behavior as long as the dating last but not forever.

Lovely photo; alas, less lovely is the aftermath. Too bad Don hadn't managed to dissuade Carol from this incompatible marriage. Good thing they're not going to dump kids in the mix. As always, you seamlessly interweave world events into the family saga. Did the Con-artist end up in jail?

Thank you so much for the review and the awesome help with things that needed help. Connie never ended up in jail, but as a teenager she had to do community service once and had to call on her brother to pay a fine to keep her out jail once. The last I didn't hear about for years. Both charges involved beer.

Beth,

What a fun bit of history. *smile* I enjoyed this a lot and I had to stop and read the part about the Rubik's Cube to my hubby. Funny stuff!

This part:
We realized that even when they marry and leave home, that doesn't mean we will no longer be caught up in their dramas.
... really struck me. I wanted BABIES. No one told me they would grow up. hahaha And continue to involve us in every crisis they endure. Ack!

Thanks!

Thank you for the review. I'm glad you liked the part about the Rubic Cube and could identify with the drama older children bring into your life.

Another eventful year ended and yet another one looms. Loved the historical context that you gave this one with Reagan and the Olympics boycott by USSR.

I know you're focused on capturing all the details like a reporter about these memories, but what's most precious to me is your mother's heart. Things like you setting aside the plates for Carol and Glen, and your thoughtful consideration of "Maybe it was the only thing she felt she could control," wondering why Carol was balancing her checkbook on her wedding day. I was impressed the Carol worked hard in sharing the same interests as Glen.

Thank you so much for the review and nice comments. Carol did try hard to make the marriage work. She didn't believe in divorce.

This is an exceptionally well written and interesting chapter, Beth. So much in your world happening and changing. I am absolutely amazed that Carol is so quick with her wondering if she made a mistake.LOL. Given another year she will find so much not to her liking, I'm sure, and realize that compromise is her new friend. Nothing ever stops for you. You are a wonder!

Thank you Ralf, I'm so glad you find this interesting. You are right. Carol had to learn to compromise and that wasn't easy for her. I always thought of her as my stubbornest child. It is funny someone told me I needed an "an" there and put it in without reading the sentence.

Dear Beth, 1984 was certainly a memorable but complicated year for the Shelby family.
I am waiting for a future chapter to see if the marriage between Carol and Glenn lasted. In some ways they were compatible, and in many ways on different planets. (particularly your daughter who are obsessed over 'one dollar' in her account on her wedding day, and a husband who was willing All HER money on things to please himself.

I've always been amazed how kids can struggle, we think they may think like us, they are products of environment, but funnily enough when push comes to shove, they will adopt the important ways of their parents, by enlarge, which I'm grateful for. Beautifully written Beth, well done, blessings Roy

Thank you Roy, I appreciate the review and nice comments. We try to save them for heartache but we want them to be happy and sometimes if we try to hard, we might not always know that is best.

My elder child and hubby were both students when first married, I wanted to help financially, but Nick was too stubborn, I had to suffer in silence for my precious child, it was tough, but they survived and are well off now, and generous,
