Moving and what to do with property is a real tough one, especially when there are children involved, regardless of their age. I currently have our family home standing majestically in the middle of town, empty and forlorn. One child says it should be hers; the other says sell it and take the money. I see all our memories inside those walls and realistically can't make the move while facing so much other tragedy. I love the fact that you continue to write these memories. It's a great journal. Smiles to you!

Thank you Carol, It is quite a task to move. Right now I'm living in a huge house on 19 acres of woodland. I don't need it but I don't want to move. My children have different opinion too. It makes no sense for me to stay because I can't keep it up by myself.

It's always funny when siblings, although I was a bit older than mine, so we didn't fight, sometimes squabble, funnily enough my girls didn't, Just squabbled occasionally, but that's tough, and really, in the scheme of things is unimportant, and the reason they fall out is unimportant. Beautifully written Beth, blessings Roy

Thank you Roy. I don't think my kids came to actual blows but I sure it was a serious verbal battle. I glad you continuing to read my story.

Thank you so much for telling me about your posted chapter, before the promotion ran out! But I'm sorry that I ran out of sixes, already. This was another chapter filled with more family drama, and I'm glad Carol and Christi didn't come to blows over ironing that dress! I remember that I had a skirt and top I liked wearing together, at around the time of my high school graduation. I did wear it for my graduation, but not long afterwards, my Mom accidentally burned it with the iron. I was disappointed and she felt badly, but there was no yelling... I think she promised to replace the top? It is so insignificant now. My Mom is very crippled with pain coming from her spine, I would give everything I own to have her in good health again. I'll say more about Mom, at the bottom of this review.

So about my mother... She has a 24-hour aide, but we don't know how long she'll be able to maintain that level of care at home, on her resources, and I don't have the strength to care for her myself. I don't have a high energy level, and I have back problems of my own, plus other issues. Would you kindly remember her in your prayers? Her name is Kay. Yes, it's strange to bring that up in the middle of a review! The ironing story just led me into it.

I look forward to reading your next chapter, to find out if you get a better value for your house! And I sincerely hope that Connie didn't end up giving you fits, as a teenager.

Thank you Mary Kay, I know you had to end up making straight A's in English class. You would make a great teacher. Yes, I will pray about your mother. That has got to be a big concern for both of you. Was you father in service. I know the government helps our with expenses on people who were married to service members. My cousin has help in her home, where she is getting money to help with expenses, but if so, you've probably checked that out.

You're very welcome, Beth, as always, and thank you for praying for my Mom. My parents separated when I was three, then divorced when I was about eleven, before he remarried and started his second family. However, I really never thought of that; my Mom still collects under my father's Social Security (as does his second wife), which is a little more than her own would be. I don't know whether veterans' privileges are extended to divorced spouses -- also, my father's service (other than a total of about 25 years in the Air Force and Army Reserves) was was one year of active duty, stateside. He almost got called to Vietnam, but then Nixon started calling troops home. He never got a service related injury, and I know that makes a difference, also.
Regarding my education, yes, I won the spelling bee for my entire school, for two separate years, and placed 4th and 6th in the district. I got into a middle/high school for gifted kids, but was very challenged there, because everyone was a brainiac! I did get some honors in college, and did very well in my English classes, where I absorbed the grammatical stuff like a sponge. But I majored in psychology. My family thought I would be much more successful in a career, but I had a stormy adolescence and many emotional problems, so I did have a series of interesting jobs (and a few boring ones). I am thankful that I was able to work for most of my life, and I had some jobs that were somewhat related to my career of choice.
But I think I should have focused more on writing, all this time, and I'm glad it's not too late!
    God bless you, my friend.
    Love, Mary Kay xoxo

I could tell you were a brainy one. As for the service, It wouldn't hurt to check My cousin's husband didn't see any combat and he was never injured but she gets benefits and I don't divorce would make a difference. You should look into it. If she gets his ss I would thing she get veteran's benefits.

Thank you so much, Beth. That's a truly excellent idea, and I appreciate it very much. I'm going to look into it and mention it to my Mom as soon as possible.

I glad you like this. I only have three grandchildren and the youngest is eighteen. No great grandchildren. The children are all my son's. None of girls had children. Thanksfor the stars and for catching the spags.

You are a very thoughtful writer (and mother!) I enjoyed reading this chapter and I know your children will appreciate reading about the thought that you and your husband put into your move.
One very small thing. This sentence had me befuddled for a bit:
"The farm was always something it was hard for you and me to talk about."
I suggest ' ...something that was hard...' Or even '...the farm was always hard for us to talk about.'
Overall, a very nice read.

Dear Beth, I think you should have titled this chapter "What Next?" It wasn't so much about the moving as it was all the family drama around and in between your fiascoes with that real estate agent.
I can hardly wait to find out what finally happened.

What a lively period in your life to say the least. Your children keep you on the move. I can imagine the fight between Christi and Carol over the dress. I have five sisters.

Beth,
Let me say you told your experience selling your home very well. Your story reminded of selling our home with out a Realtor and made us happy that we finally sold it our own; and at the prize we were asking.
I had to smile when you told us about Cristi burning her dress and putingt a hole in it

Realtors are usually a greedy bunch. I have never met one who wasn't and no wonder, they get an exhorberant commission. I had two teen aged girls. They were difficult but they were a joy. LOL Thanks for sharing, Beth. Nancy:)
