I'm so glad you showed up that Realtor, who thought you'd never get your asking price! He thought you were lying, but he didn't know the Shelby family :-)

I think I mentioned that I was often too occupied with my personal life to pay close attention to current events, but I do remember both the stock market crash and President Reagan's memorable words to Gorbachev. They were both very historic moments.

As usual, multiple things were going on in your household! I'm looking forward to reading more of your ongoing story.

Thank you Mary Kay. You are so helpful. It is so nice to have a punctuations pro reading my story and helping get it right. Of course, I thrilled with the six-star review as well. Some of the world events went by us unnoticed too, but those mentioned we something memorable.

You're very welcome, Beth. I'm always happy to help. Occasionally I have to look things up, especially hyphenation of some words -- I try to remember them, but I should keep a list of the ones that frequently pop up. God bless you, my friend. Love, Mary Kay xoxo

We were stationed in Berlin when the wall came down. It was amazing. We actually could see the difference between free Berlin and Communist Berlin. The same city but totally different.

That is so interesting. I don't think it came down un 1989 but Reagan told him to take it down in 1987. I never quite understood why he told the leader of Russia to talk it down when it was in Germany. Was that part of Germany part of the USSR?
reply by barbara.wilkey on 07-Feb-2021
Because Russia had control over that part of Berlin since WW11.

I like the way you mix in world events with your memories of your family. You are indeed fortunate to have sold your house before Black Monday, which had such an impact. I also have to say that I'm glad you got a chance to give that real estate agent what for, when he tried to bully you into lowering the price.
This is another well-written and enjoyable chapter in your story.

Thank you so much for the review and comments. Yes it was a pleasure to tell the Realtor that he was wrong and and the house sold for the asking price and we sold it ourselves.

Thank you for review and comments. Yes we wee very lucky. If it had happened a day or so later, I wouldn't have been there to answer the phone. This was way before cell phones so they couldn't have reached me.

I can't understand whats going on in my head, yours is the third post I read a couple of days ago and didn't review. I only know this because one of the authors of the posts I review sent me a pm, saying it would come off and I wouldn't get a payment. She knew I loved the story. So now I'm going through everything and finding out there are several I didn't write up! So, sorry about this. I'm wondering if there are more going back that I've read and not reviewed. Just know, I am reading!! OMW. I'm getting old, and senile.
Anyway, this post. How you must have smiled to tell that Realtor you'd sold for the asking price!! LOL. and you wouldn't have to pay his fees either!! Wonderful. That was probably your best birthday present that year. I'm glad everything was going smoothly in the end. Now to find you new dream home. Well done, I'm loving this. :)) Sandra xxx

I think you're been reading my regularly and I do appreciate it. Yes, it was good to tell the Realtor I'd sold it. He didn't believe but I sure he checked the paper later which always carried details of sales and he probably learned ti was true. Thanks so much for the review.

Someone up there was looking after you. Selling your house when you did was a blessing. I'm wondering now if you did finally settle in Tennessee or why not in the lovely state of Florida?

Thank you Ralf. I do believe it was like a miracle that we sold when we did. Yes we did settle in Tennessee and I'm still here nearly 34 years later. My husband didn't like Florida. We both loved the mountains. It is great place to live. Much prettier than Florida.

Hehe..a giant salt crystal, as opposed to a GRAIN of salt! Ha! God was looking after your house sale, mate! We bought our house in a slump time I think. Built in 1982 we bought it in 1987 and 2 months after we bought it the economy got up and it would have been worth over $100,000 and out of our range! This was another excellent chapter. Sorry no more SIX's for you. Well done no spags!

Thank you so much for the review and comments. I thought a giant salt crystal would be less of a cliché. You bought at the right time too. Good for you. I can't believe I had one spag freel

You did well selling your house. Your story is one of transition here with children going to college and the process of trying to find another home. You have a story that also reflects the times. Excellent writing that holds the reader's interest.
