Your family life continued to be quite busy with the different interests of each child. They sound much like my four boys. I don't mean in their actions, I mean, each one is so different in their pursuits. Don with his cars (he never picks a winner, lol) Christie's active dating, Carol always finding something new she likes, and Connie just keeps going like the battery commercial. You two were certainly a great support to the children and others of the family.

Thank you for the review and comments. Yes it is amazing they can all be brought up alike and yet they turn out different. At least, we all still get together regularly as a family. I'll hope it will continue to be that way when I'm no longer around.

Yes, that is my hope as well. My boys are quite diverse. The eldest is non-religious and the third one is a devoted Lutheran, although he was born a Roman Catholic. So those two seldom communicate.

Beth,

This is a very written chapter. You and Evan were so busy.
I'm happy that you can have this type of memory available
for your family to look back on in years to come. Nice of
you to do this...

"Don was running out of money, so we gave him a hundred dollars and sent him back with bags of groceries."

And Connie's part of the story is always very interesting. I better not
say any more about Lenny...Who did Connie end up marrying??

The part about buying the Freezer for your garage and Evan freezing
food stood out to.

Very nice job,
Anna

Thank you so much for the review and comments. Stay tuned to find out what happens with Connie. My children are all pleased that I'm doing this and so far haven't gotten upset when I reveal the less desirable traits. LOL

Beth, I always enjoy reading your words, intended as a memoir for your children. It always impresses me how much you remember, I know you mentioned you have the help of personal journals but I love this idea but wouldn't know where to begin! I try to read these chapters as often as time allows! Thanks for sharing.

Hi Beth. sorry I have missed out on so much an dto be honest I doubt I could ever catch up. Be that as it may, I still think you have a very interesting story to tell. Giving your son a hundred bucks in Atlanta and bags of groceries is something we are familiar with. Parents are always helping their kids it seems.

Trouble is, we have to be careful with that enabling them or they will never grab the reins themselves and consequently have it real hard as time goes by.

Bless you Beth. Bob

Thank you Bob, I appreciate the review and nice comments. I still end up helping a couple of them, unfortunately. This is not a story with a plot so there is nothing to catch up with. I'm just recording what happened within a period of time. I am keeping up with your story because I would get behind if I missed one.

I am interested to see what will happen with Lenny and Connie. LOl There seems to be a drama there. I know it worked out to be the best for both. I am enjoying reading these memoirs.

My kids are all drama queens so there was always drama going on in my house. I have to tone the story down so the ones reading won't think we're all crazy. Thanks so much for the review and comments.

I enjoy reading about your family and at times I can see things you dealt with much like some of ours when raising kids especially, in private schools. They all have accepted respectable professions Good one Beth.

I imagine that most families have somewhat similar issues to deal with, but in other ways we are all unique. I wouldn't want to repeat the teen years with my children. Too much drama. When I moved to Chattanooga I kept a journal for a few years. Reading it back reminds me of things that might have been best forgotten. It wasn't the perfect little picture I would like to paint. LOL

There's always a lot going on with the Shelby gang! Your daughters were very popular with the guys! Poor Christi, so worried about her appearance, and I'm sure she was a beauty. You were always such a good mom, and a loving wife, too. You had such a great trip to Opryland!
You did the best you could with Connie, by not forcing her to go to church. But I do hope she eventually went back to both the church, and to God.

How did you ever get used to the name of a town called Ooltewah?

It seems that I missed reviewing your last chapter, but I did read it (so I wouldn't be lost, reading this one). I had an exceptionally busy two weeks! I may go back and review it also, when I can.

It was good that you discouraged Don from getting the motorcycle. Our family also has a motorcycle story: When my brother John was alive, he, too, wanted to get one. It scared the daylights out of my mother. So she told him that if he got the motorcycle, he would never see another penny from her again.
So that was the end of the motorcycle.

Thank you so much for the review and all the help you so willing give. I appreciate you making it so easy for me to find the errors by showing both what I wrote and what it should be. My husband said when we first came to Chattanooga he would never live in a place name Ooltewah because he couldn't even pronounce it. It turned out to be a great place to live even if we don't say it right. It means owl's nest in the Indian tongue. I was relieved that Don didn't get the motorcycle then. Now, his own son just got one, so he is the one who finds out was worrying about your kid is like.

You're very welcome, Beth. Oh, I had a feeling that the name was Native American in origin! It makes me like it a little better. "Owl's nest" isn't bad, either. Oh yes, that's very interesting, that Don's son got a motorcycle! He was a handful, wasn't he! May God keep them safe. - Mary Kay

Thank you, Beth, for saying that you like my style of doing revisions. Recently someone tried to tell me there was a simpler way to show people what to do, but I still think my way is more helpful, and I'm going to stick with it. It's not hard at all, because I can just highlight the text and copy it in to the reviewing box. Thank you for confirming that it's helpful!

Oh my what emotional drama. Some teenage boys are very sensitive and if they are turned away from the girl they set their hopes on, they never date again. So I hope that wasn't Lenny's case. Thanks for keeping us posted on what happened next. I feel for Carol, who did everything to be a perfect wife. Hope she actually liked the new hobbies that Glen got her to try.

a hundren dollars and sent him back with bags of groceries. (hundred)

Thank you so much for the review. Having teenage boys and girls has made me see a lot of tears and broken hearts. I think in some ways boys are hurt more deeply than girls.
I had that hundred written numerically but Ulna told me that numbers should be spelled. I had another reviewer tell me the opposite. I looked up the rules and got conflicting information. Some said numbers up to ten should be written and other expressed numerically. What do you think?
reply by lyenochka on 03-Apr-2021
You know in the APA rules, only numbers up to ten need to be spelled out unless the number begins a sentence unless it's a year. I like this explanation best: https://www.grammarbook.com/numbers/numbers.asp

It sounds very much like Lenny's parents want him to go out with Connie, but perhaps she's redeemed herself because at the end of this episode they spend some time together, courtesy of Lenny's parents. It's difficult handing kids, well done Beth, blessings Roy
Typo : concerning (Valarie) Valerie? 2: They tore it down to (built) build?

I think they tried to keep them apart for a while because Lenny was so unset but when the were getting along they seemed to like Connie.
