It sounds like the nest wasn't empty for long. All your children are undergoing changes in their situations.

As usual, you and Evan had a good trip on the road. I don't know much about the traditional duck walk from a duck palace, but it sounds hilarious!

My suggestions:

We told her if she did it would have to be temporary until she could find a place she could afford.

Thank you so much Mary Kay. My kids were unsettled for a while but thankfully, they did live with us too long. The ducks are ordinary ducks and they just walk but for some reason it has been a long tradition at the Peabody Hotel. I'd like to know how it got started myself. Thank so much for the corrections. I can't believe I misspelled procession and no one noticed but you.

You're very welcome, Beth. Ha! Maybe some people felt that the ducks might be in "possession" of the hotel. It's sometimes possible that the autocorrect feature in some programs can create those types of errors. Ever since I changed phones, I've noticed some horrendous errors -- even after I type in a correct word, something bizarre appears, in its place.
I looked up the Duck Walk, and I had to add "Peabody Hotel," otherwise other types of links came up. Here's some of what I found:
    Traditional Duck March, Peabody Hotel
    https://youtu.be/KqYkTJ_Sc4s
This is a much longer video (half an hour) that explains more about the hotel, and even shows the Duck Palace on the roof, at the end:
    https://youtu.be/4nOz2CLwgyg
You might find it interesting. In the second one, I skipped over some of the material that wasn't about the ducks.
Right now, at this very moment, we're getting hit with what's left of Hurricane Ida -- I think it's just a storm, but a big one. Should be nasty weather, possibly dangerous, for the better part of a day.
    Praying for Afghanistan 🙏
God bless you! Love, Mary Kay xoxo

I got Ida all day yesterday but we just had heavy. I hear it is spawning tornadoes today so my prayers are with you. I'll check out the duck video.

I drove a Greyhound Bus from Pine Bluff into Memphis during that time and stayed in Peabody. Ducks! Good thing you and Evan went back and found her out of gas. Good one, Beth. Carol, bless her heart.

Oh my! Will three of your children all come back for a while. It sounds stressful. It's so good that you were able to see that Carol wasn't following you. It's interesting that she attributed to her being less attentive because she felt too secure knowing you both were around. I wonder when Christi would make an observation like that.

Thank you Helen. Actually when they came back, it didn't turn out to be for long periods. However even now, three of them live in property I own. At least they aren't in the house with me. We were watching to make sure Carol stayed behind us. She knew we'd come back. That is why she asked the we go part the way with her.

This is a very interest recounting of events. I think your idea is a wonderful one. Too often we don't get to know our parents the way others, who are not their children, know them. I think your children will appreciate your efforts. I don't know where in your book this chapter falls, but your explanation at the top helped me slip into it with ease and your list of characters are a helpful addition, as well. Great work.

Thank you so much for the revview. I start writing about when I was in high school and met my husband to be. Now I'm pretty far along but I'll probably keep writing for a while. I hope you read more of it.

You always offer readers important and interesting details about your family's life. I enjoyed reading this chapter, Beth. The car incident sounded scary. I'm happy that Carol made it safely to OK and back on her trip. I don't understand Don taking the painting job and leaving his wife. Maybe it didn't last long. Hopefully Connie's dabble in drugs is a thing of the past--esp with her heart issue.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

Thank you Jan. Don took the job because Kimberly was okay with it. She wanted him to make some money and she no doubt wanted him out of her hair for a while. It didn't last but a few days. Yes Connie did try get off drugs. She wan't hooked on them. She had a bit more trouble with cigrettes and alcohal.

I have heard of the hotel with the ducks parading at a certain time. The trip to Memphis sounds like so much fun, visiting Graceland and other sites. Your children continue to keep life interesting.

Thank you so much for the review and comments. There is a lot to do around Memphis. Tennessee is such a wide state and Memphis is a long way from Chattanooga. I don't get there often. I wish we'd had time to go through Graceland.

Wow, Beth, at this rate all your children will be back in a heartbeat. How is it all going to work out? I could follow you on your travels. I have driven from southern Missouri, to Memphis, through Mississippi to New Orleans back in 1995.
Now what? Ulla:)))

When I read the parts about your travels, Beth, I'm always glad that I had the opportunity to travel through some of them. It makes it more interesting when I can see them in my mind. You had a really large acreage. It's sad to see that your children are all struggling with things at this time. I was diagnosed with an irregular heart rate in my fifties, but I think I might have had symptoms of it twenties years earlier. I'm now over seventy and so far, I've had no problems. I'm just not allowed to donate blood! Great read.

One spag: "...and the guests (line to up) watch the possession." - reverse the to and up

Than you Judy. I can't donate blood either. I now take a half of a small pill a day that keeps my heart regulated. I wish I'd know about it earlier. When it jumped to the rapid beat it always scared me.

Oh no--Christi's coming back! How many years did temporarily last? Another captivating chapter--looking forward to the birth! Poor Carol--did she end up back with you too?

Actually any amount of time at all with Christi seems like forever. After Carol moved out of our house, she didn't return. However she, Don, and Christi are all living in property I own. We get to that eventually. LOL>

Your house seems to have revolving doors when it comes to your children. Mine too. My oldest for a very short time the other two? Well they are with me now when I need them. That is a good thing. Well done Beth. Nancy:)

Thank you Nancy. You are right. It did seem that way. I used to call my children boom-a-rangs because they were always coming back.
It hasn't happened for a while now and at some point I might wish for that. However they all live close and I see them often.
