Thanks for the update, Beth. Yes, it seemed to be a better year than
the one before. I understand about your dad wanting to see the old
place but not wanting to stay without your mom. You did a great job
sharing the many details about your family members. The settlement
for the DPT was exciting though bittersweet.
a testamony --> testimony

Respectfully, Jan

You must have the greatest memory in the world, and I'm happy for you. As I shared in one of my earlier stories, I can't even go to the grocery store and get home with everything I went for. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Ric, I appreciate the review. I don't have that great a memory. I had a journal I was keeping back then to trigger my memory.

Stunning turn of events! I recall your writing about the lawsuit in detail in another piece--this concise recap touches on the salient points for those who missed the larger story. How did you know the lawyer called if you didn't have an answering machine? Was someone in the family there to answer the phone?

Thank you Elizabeth. My phone recorded his name and number. It showed me who called but didn't take messages. I'm glad you're still reading my posts.

Quite a bit going on in this great autobiographical account in your lives. Whrj one condenses circumstance it always seems to be tough, but really there's lots of good things going, it's just that the angsty things take up space. But build character. Beautifully written my friend,

The most interesting parts of this included the look at your rental place and deciding everything was fine since the tenants paid their rent on time. Also, applauded the paragraph where you get a big and deserved settlement.

Thank you for the review and comments. The settlement was a dream come true but my husband invested most of it in CD's which were paying well at the time. We aren't big spenders except on the kids and we didn't even tell them we got it. They would have found I reason they needed in worse than we did. I told them recently but they figuree it is gone by now so they aren't asking.

Smart move then not to tell your children. My son tells me not to give my granddaughter money because she spends it all on clothes.

Whew! I remember when you shared about getting that settlement. I liked the way you told it keeping the reader about the outcome in suspense until the end (for those who didn't already know!)
I feel so bad for you to have suffered back pain while caring for a sick baby while your kids went skiing! You're a patient mom!!

Thank you Helen. I really appreciate the review and comments. I'm not so patient, but I then I usually gave in after I've made them feel guilty for asking. LOL.

That is certainly good news at the end of your story, receiving the money which took such a long time. Your life was certainly full with your father, your children and the farm. Excellent memoir writing.

What a cheeky woman, demanding you throw out you renters for her. I had a similar experience with my mother's house. It was wonderful for you to get that settlement. I bet you felt it was time something good happened.

Thank for the review and comment. I agree she was pretty cheeky. We weren't charging a lot to rent the place and that woman would have likely driven us crazy, It is better to stick with what you know than take a chance on someone new. The settlement was a big surprise and we were thrilled.

I suspect I might have missed some chapters in this, Beth. It was impossible to keep up with all the posts while I was away. But it was easy to jump into this one and no what was going on. Interesting that a woman just decided you should rent your country property to her instead of the ones who lived in it. What a wonderful surprise that you won so much in the settlement.

Thank you Judy, I doubt if you missed much. I've been writing more on genealogy lately. The last chapter was about all the bad thing that happened in 1995, like Mom dying and having in my dad and quite work to care for him. I appreciate the review.

You?re welcome, Beth. I guess I didn?t miss any of this. :) I must have missed the genealogy ones. I had to delete older ones that didn?t pay because I got too far behind to catch up.

The objective correlative of your work reminisces how the protagonist, her husband and their dad tried to go on an upgrading mission of their reportedly discredited home and acreage.

The work highlights their cold snowy environment in Chattanooga; the fluctuating bood pressure of the protagonist's husband that necessitated frequent change of prescriptions; their trip back to Mississippi that was occasioned by Dad's desire to undo, what has already been discredited of the home; their assessment of the true situation of things as not being too bad as painted by the seemingly selfish informant; their prompt repair of mom's tomb; news of the awards made as compensation concerning Susan's law suit and how the money that accrued from it served as a pivot for the protagonist's husband to go back into business.

The work earns its texture through its effective use of anecdotes synonymous with how the death of loving wife could make a man disinterested in living in a home the once cherished.

Excellent work. Bravo.
